During Engineers Week, Utah engineers celebrate by holding a banquet to give out scholarships, declare Utah’s engineer of the year, and listen to a great keynote speaker. Awards also go to the MESA teacher of the year, engineering educator, and “fresh face” in engineering.
Thanks to our sponsors who make it possible, this year we gave 13 scholarships and honored 24 nominees. The top honor is Utah Engineer of the Year.
The Structural Engineering Association of Utah nominated Brent White as Utah Engineer of the Year for the year 2018. Brent has been employed at ARW Engineers since 1983 and has been a Principal since 1990. He became President in 2002. He has been an adjunct professor at Utah State University and currently serves as a member of the USU Department of Civil Engineering Advisory Board. He has served as the Structural Advisory Committee Chair to the Utah Uniform Building Code Commission for many years. He speaks extensively on risk management. His community service also includes Plain City Council, Plain City Planning Commission, church leader, and post-earthquake assessment volunteer here and in Haiti and Japan.
You can view our power point charts here to see who the other winners and sponsors were. In a few weeks this information and more will be available in the UEC Journal which is accessible at our web site, utahengineerscouncil.org. The UEC Journal also includes articles from our member engineering societies.
I was very pleased to be the emcee for the third year in a row. It is a real pleasure representing such a great organization.
